Our Story

Traditional Heritage Range Fused with Modern Collection All Created to Quality Standards Set 250 years ago

Carr & Day & Martin, which was founded in 1765, has a distinguished history in the equestrian industry. Our adventure began in 1800, with the launch of our traditional Belvoir Tack Conditioner soap, a product that has endured to the present day. The turning point in our history occurred in 1820 when King George granted us the prestigious Royal Warrant, an accolade that has survived the reigns of 8 British monarchs.

With a long history of accomplishments, Carr & Day & Martin embraces the present producing innovative horse care solutions that combine our core traditional values with modern ones. A few major developments along the route were the revamping of packaging by 1950 and the current introduction of premium products like Canter Mane & Tail and the Gallop Shampoo range for contemporary equestrian demands.

We are now a part of Connolly’s RED MILLS Group, which reflects and honors our core values. We are excited to carry on the legacy and traditions of high-quality equine care that began in 1765.

Belvoir Soap: A Timeless Formulation Spanning Centuries

The Belvoir Soap range by Carr & Day & Martin has a rich history. Back in 1800, the introduction of the Belvoir Bar Soap marked a significant milestone as the world’s first glycerine bar soap offering available for equestrians.

Unbelievably, the Belvoir Bar Soap’s formula continues to be the same today, as a commitment to our undying dedication to preserving its ageless effectiveness. Equestrians still value the Belvoir Soap line as much as they did 250 years ago, which nowadays includes the Belvoir Tack Conditioning Tray and is a testament to the timeless quality that has endured through 2 centuries.

COOL FACT! Its pronunciation as “beaver” dates back to 1066, when English speakers had trouble pronouncing the French spelling of Belvoir, leading to a change to sounding like “beaver” in Leicestershire, England. Belvoir Castle is a fake historic castle. We speculate that Belvoir Saddle Soap and Belvoir Castle may have had a connection.
