Our Story

Traditional Blended with Modern Innovation Underlined by Unwavering Commitment to Quality set 250 yrs ago

Established in 1765, Carr & Day & Martin boasts an exceptional heritage in the equestrian world. Our journey began with the launch of our enduring Belvoir Tack Conditioner soap in 1800, a formulation that has stood the test of time. The pivotal moment came in 1820 when we were granted the esteemed Royal Warrant by King George, an honour that has been retained through the reigns of 8 monarchs in the United Kingdom.

With a rich legacy of excellence, Carr & Day & Martin embraces the present, crafting horse care solutions that blend with our core values with modern advancements.  Some key milestones along the way were the redesign of packaging by 1950, while in recent decades top- grade products such as Canter Mane & Tail, and Gallop Shampoo range were introduced for today’s equestrian needs.

Today, we are part of Connolly’s RED MILLS Group which embodies and upholds our core values and we look forward to continuing the heritage of quality horse care started in 1765.

Belvoir Soap: A Timeless Formulation Since 1800

The history of the Belvoir Soap range by Carr & Day & Martin is steeped in heritage and innovation. In 1800, the Belvoir Bar Soap was launched and it was the first glycerine bar soap on the market worldwide. Remarkably, the formulation of the Belvoir Bar Soap remains unchanged to this day, as a testament to our unwavering commitment to preserving its timeless efficacy. Today, the Belvoir Soap range including the Belvoir Tack Conditioning Tray continues to be cherished by riders today as proof of its enduring quality through the times.

FUN FACT! Belvoir Castle, a faux historic castle in Leicestershire, England, is pronounced “Beaver” due to its origins in 1066 when English speakers struggled to pronounce the French spelling of Belvoir, resulting in a shift to sounding like “beaver”. We think Belvoir Saddle Soap might have some historical links to Belvoir Castle.
