Are you preparing your horse for its winter clip? It’s that time of the year when clipping becomes necessary as your horse’s winter coat begins to grow in.

Proper preparation for clipping is crucial to prevent the clippers from catching on the horse’s hair and to achieve clean and neat lines.

Brush

Before washing, make sure to remove any excess mud and dirt from your horse’s coat using a body brush. This step will help to ensure a cleaner and more effective washing process.

Shampoo

Prior to clipping your horse, it is recommended to wash them using Gallop Extra Strength Shampoo. This shampoo is formulated with double the level of active ingredients, providing superior cleaning power to effectively remove grass stains, mud, and other forms of soiling. You can either pour the shampoo undiluted onto a wet coat or dilute 5-6 capfuls in a bucket of water. Massage the shampoo into the coat using a sponge or by hand, ensuring thorough coverage. Once the shampoo has been worked into the horse’s coat, rinse it off with water to achieve immediate results.

Winter Washing

In case the weather is too cold for a complete bath, you have the option to spot clean specific areas using a hot cloth and diluted Gallop Extra Strength Shampoo. This method allows you to target particularly grimy areas and effectively remove dirt. Additionally, you can use Stain Master as a dry shampoo to address green spots and stable stains before and after clipping, ensuring a polished and smart finish.

Conditioner

After washing your horse, apply Canter Coat Shine to their coat to instantly add shine and provide conditioning benefits. This multi-use coat conditioner not only helps your clippers glide smoothly through your horse’s coat during clipping but also serves as a fantastic product for enhancing quarter marks and preventing rug rubs.
